Mosquée de Touba

Touba is the holy city of the Mourides and is located in west-central Senegal.

The mosque was founded by Amadou Bamba in 1887 and completed in 1963.

Bamba died in 1927 and is buried in the mosque.Bamba's family continued to finish this mosque.It is a colossal structure with 5 minarets and the largest 87 metres.

Every year during the Grand Magal, 1 million believers flock to Touba.

In Touba, alcohol and tobacco are banned but in the huge market, selling contraband is the main source of income.

Make sure you bring something to cover yourself otherwise you will not be allowed into the mosque.
